1920s medicine Essay The 1920s had many discoveries and innovations when it comes to medicine and science. Many of the things that we now take for granted were just getting their start during the 20s. Throughout the 1920s, new innovations in the medical and science field led to the discovery of vitamins and knowing more than ever before about the human body. New vital drugs and vaccines were created in this era that are hard to imagine not having today. The invention/discovery of the first anti-bacterial drugs saved more people from bacterial and viral infections than any previous time. Before the 1920s many medical conditions were untreatable or even deadly that we now consider to be easily cared for. Penicillin was one of the big medical discoveries of the 20s, the worlds first antibiotic. Penicillin was discovered by Alexander Flemming when he was examining mold and bacterial growth. This discovery opened up the possibilities for killing bacterial infections and without this many other medical innovations would not have occurred. Insulin was another major medical discovery in the 20s. Without this people with diebetes would not be able to properly treat their condition and thousands would die from a now treatable disorder. Various types of vitamins were also discovered in the 20s that help people today stay healthy. The medical field would not be what it is today if it wasnt for the research put in by people of the 1920s. Millions of lives were saved due to the medical discoveries that were made in the 1920s. Without Penicillin, there may have never been any antibiotics created and a bacterial infection would mean a slow death. Insulin saves those with diebetes lives daily and without it diebetes would be considered a deadly condition. Life just wouldnt be the same today if none of medical innovations of the 20s happened.

The Impact of Music on Students In some way, music affects everyone. Whether it is, a young girl?s favorite song on the radio, a college student?s escape from reality or a form of entertainment to a married couple, music brings everyone together. Music definitely affects the lifestyles of people in many different ways. The diverse styles of music makes people look and act differently. Music has many different levels. To me, levels meaning; the more independent and progressive the music is, the more the fans take it to the extreme. Music creates style. It causes people to talk, act, and dress the way they do. I hope to discover how much music influences people, especially college students. Also, the more fascinated they are the more influences it has to them. I would like to prove, that to some, music is nothing more than the pop song playing on the radio in the car, and to others, it is a major part of their life. It is very interesting to me, to learn the effects music has toward people. Mu sic impacts everyone in some way (positive or negative), but I think it impacts college students the most. I would like to know the reasons people are listening to music they buy. Also, the reasons certain groups are more popular than others. I used a couple various methods of research to conduct my research. I wrote up ten surveys with some questions about gender, age, what they buy, do they attend concerts, and do they support local music. I passed these surveys out to completely random students so there was no imbalance of the results. I hope to find out certain things like: are males affected more than females from music; who buys more clothing/ accessories; is local music importa... ... time last week, at a little place in Oakland.? We were talking about how they are definitely one of his favorites, if he had to pick. I asked him why he was so into music. He replied ?It?s a stress reliever. It takes my mind off school, work, and people?s pettiness.? Another interview that I performed was not as formal. This one was with my dad at the dinner table. It was pretty short and to the point. I asked him if he likes music. He said ?No.? I then asked him if he ever listens to it and he said ?No, when I am in the car I listen to the news or talk radio and when I?m home I?m either working or watching TV.? After doing this research, I realized that by doing interviews you can really feel the emotion from the answers compared to reading a survey. I think that interviews did help me make certain things easier to understand on the survey.

Martin Luther king, Jr and Malcolm X. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X grew up in different environments. King was raised in a middle-class family where education was important, and Malcolm X came from a family of low class He was a self-taught man who received little schooling and became who he is on his own. Martin Luther King was born into a good family. Despite segregation, Martin Luther King’s parents tried everything so that he could be and happy. He was a smart student and passed the enterance exam to Morehouse University at the age of 15. Malcolm X was was raised in a completely different place than King, an a place of and anger. Becaue of the burning of his house his father died. His mother then suffered a nervous breakdown and his family was split up. After his mother had a mental breakdown, the he was placed in foster homes. Malcolm X’s anger was increased as he went through integrated schooling. he was driven by hate and a desire for revenge. he decided to drop out of school and move to Boston with his half sister. Because of the life that Malcolm X and Martin Luther King lived was responsible for the distinct different responses to American racism. Both men were important to the African-American culture and had a great influence on black Americans. However, King had a more positive attitude than Malcolm X. He believed that through peaceful demonstrations and arguments blacks were able to someday achieve full equality with whites. Because Malcolm X’s life was based on angry belief he thought that equality was impossible because whites had evil. King basically adopted on a more peacefull philosophy that thought that blacks and whites should be united and live together in peace, but Malcolm X promoted nationalist and separatist doctrines. For most of his life, he believed that only through revolution and force blacks and white wuld be equal and live in a better inviorment. Education was also important. Blacks and whites. they where segregated and the conditions in sertain schools where not good. King knew that black people were’nt completing high school as much as white people. Malcolm x also was intersted in desegregated education, and stoping segregation in schools. They wanted schools to be equal and they both worked hard trying to break it. Malcolm x and martin luther king had different views on economics. One thing that martin luther king thought that black people should do is black people should try to go to protest for their belives. Malcolm x belived that if black people where to defeat with violence. The white people would give blacks what they deserved. Martin Luther king and Malcolm X both had different views on how america should be and people also saw them as two different people but they both had the same target. That target was to make blacks and whites free and equal. Even though Malcolm X belived in violence in order to get his way for the people he made a huge in america. So did Martin Luther king. He wanted people to show peace and Non-violence in order to get equality. In conclution, whose philosophy did make the most sense for America in 1960’s? Well martin luther kings philosophy mad more sense because he wanted to bring peace to the people, he was fair to all white and black people, and he connected more with the people since he belived in Cristian religion.
